British Columbia - Tech Pilot

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) Tech Pilot allows foreign nationals working in in-demand technology occupations to apply for a provincial nomination to migrate in British Columbia, Canada.

The BC PNP helps employers to address their labor needs by providing a permanent immigration pathway for in-demand foreign workers, international students and entrepreneurs with the skills and expertise needed to grow the province’s economy.

Are you eligible for BC PNP Tech Pilot?

Applicants need to meet some requirements in order to be eligible for BC PNP Tech Pilot Program. Here is a list of some requirements:

  1. Be economically independent to support yourself and your dependents.
  2. Meet the minimum language requirement.
  3. For International Graduate category, you need to have a degree, diploma or certificate from an eligible post-secondary institution in Canada in the past 3 years.
  4. For Skilled Worker category, you need to have at least 2 years of work experience.
  5. Qualify to do your job.
  6. Be eligible to immigrate to Canada.
  7. Have a valid job offer with an occupation in the eligible list.

  • 0213 – Computer and information systems managers
  • 0512 – Managers – publishing, motion pictures, broadcasting and performing arts
  • 2131 – Civil engineers
  • 2132 – Mechanical engineers
  • 2133 – Electrical and electronics engineers
  • 2134 – Chemical engineers
  • 2147 – Computer engineers (except software engineers and designers)
  • 2171 – Information systems analysts and consultants
  • 2172 – Database analysts and data administrators
  • 2173 – Software engineers and designers
  • 2174 – Computer programmers and interactive media developers
  • 2175 – Web designers and developers
  • 2221 – Biological technologists and technicians
  • 2241 – Electrical and electronics engineering technologists and technicians
  • 2242 – Electronic service technicians (household and business equipment)
  • 2243 – Industrial instrument technicians and mechanics
  • 2281 – Computer network technicians
  • 2282 – User support technicians
  • 2283 – Information systems testing technicians
  • 5121 – Authors and writers
  • 5122 – Editors
  • 5125 – Translators, terminologists and interpreters
  • 5224 – Broadcast technicians

  • 5226 – Other technical and co-ordinating occupations in motion pictures, broadcasting and the performing arts
  • 5227 – Support occupations in motion pictures, broadcasting, photography and the performing arts

  • 6221 – Technical sales specialists – wholesale trade

The applicant’s job offer must be at least one year in duration (365 days)

There must be at least 120 calendar days remaining on the job offer at the time of application.

The Application Process For BC PNP Tech Pilot:

  1. Registration:
    Foreign national workers who have accepted a BC job offer may register online and receive their score immediately. Registration is free.

  2. Invitation:
    The BC PNP invites the highest scoring registrants to apply for a Nomination. Invited candidates have up to 30 calendar days from the date of invitation to submit a complete online application. The processing fee is $700. Those who do not apply within 30 days of being invited are removed from the pool after 12 months.

  3. Application:
    The BC PNP will assess and process applications on a priority basis.

  4. Nomination:
    Approved or nominated candidates will receive a Confirmation of Nomination and a work permit support letter, if required, which they can use to apply for a new work permit, to extend permit, or to apply for permanent residence.

  5. Permanent Residence: 
    After being nominated, Provincial Nominees and their dependent family members have up to 6 months to apply to IRCC for permanent residence. IRCC conducts security and admissibility checks and makes the final decision regarding permanent residence.
