Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)
Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) program is a community-driven program which allows foreign nationals to obtain a job offer to fill the gap of labor needs in Rural and Northern areas of Canada.
Since most of the immigrants were settling in urban cities, more jobs are becoming available in rural areas. In addition, low birth rates, aging population, and youth immigration were reported to have had a huge impact by decreasing its population. These are the core reasons why the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program (RNIP) Canada was launched.
Furthermore, the program is designed to support economic development in smaller communities by creating pathway to permanent residence and citizenship for foreign nationals who want to work and live in any one of the participating communities.
What are the communities participating in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)?
Participating communities as of writing are as follows:
- North Bay, ON
- Sudbury, ON
- Timmins, ON
- Sault Ste. Marie, ON
- Thunder Bay, ON
- Brandon, MB
- Altona/Rhineland, MB
- Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
- Claresholm, AB
- Vernon, BC
- West Kootenay (Trail, Castlegar, Rossland, Nelson), BC

The Application Process for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) Program:
- Work Experience at least one year
- Meet the minimum language requirements (CLB-4 to CLB-6)
- Meet the educational requirements (Canadian high school diploma or equivalent)
- Meet the settlement fund requirements (Proof of Fund)
- Intend to live in the community
- Meet the additional requirements established by the participating community.
Secure a valid job offer from an employer belonging to any one of the communities participating in the Pilot.
Once you have a valid job offer with you, you need to have a recommendation from any selected community. Keep in mind that you will be asked to submit supporting documents. Provide only the copies and keep the originals with you.
Once you have the recommendation from any community, we will apply for permanent residence on your behalf.
Step by Step Guide for Permanent Residence through RNIP
- Communities shortlisted for participation
- Community employers approach the prospective candidates or, candidates can approach the community employers
- Candidate submits the application
- Community reviews applications and select “best fits” candidate
- Community endorses the candidates to the IRCC
- Candidates submits Permanent Residence application to IRCC
- Assessment of the applicant by the IRCC
- Candidate attains the Permanent Residency status
- Community welcomes candidate and family members and provides services to support their settlement and integration
